Sparda-Bank
Sparda-Bank captured retail-banking workflows and member-account logic before a network-level platform consolidation.
The Sparda-Bank cooperative network serves several million members across Germany, with retail-banking workloads spanning multiple regional Sparda institutions coordinated through a shared cooperative IT infrastructure. As the network moves toward consolidation on a common platform, the COBOL estates that handle account opening, SEPA payment processing, member-account servicing and end-of-day reconciliation needed to be visible to a wider audience than the small group of long-tenured application owners.
COBOLpro extracted the production logic from source, built program-level and cross-system dependency views, and validated each domain in structured sessions with the original owners while they were still in seat. The reviewed reference now spans member onboarding, payment handoff and reconciliation pathways — including the edge cases and known risk areas that had previously lived only in tribal knowledge.
Change reviewers across the cooperative network use the package to assess upstream impact before touching production batches. The institutional memory of two generations of Sparda engineers is captured in a form that survives team turnover and supports the ongoing platform-consolidation programme.
